Sausalito is also well-known for its large contingent of house boats.ĭuring Prohibition, Sausalito was a center for bootlegging. The median price of a home is $786,200, tied for #83 on the list of 100 U.S. A large percentage of Sausalito’s population, it would be fair to say, qualify as wealthy. Following the war, it progressively developed into its modern identity as an artistic enclave and major tourist town. During WWII, it was developed quickly as a shipbuilding center. Like much of Marin and Sonoma Counties, Sausalito was at one time the site of a Coast Miwok settlement called, Liwanelowa.
